Do you like history? Obidos has been inhabited since the late Paleolithic era. Celt tribes, Phoenicians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors, and Portuguese have all ruled here.
We visited just before Christmas, and stayed on a quaint street with views of the Castle.

Then explored the castle as evening fell.

The Castle Tower is incredible!

The castle walls had steep drop offs and stairways that often led to paths that wound down behind homes built inside the castle compound.

You can book a stay at a Pousada inside the castle walls.

There’s bookstore inside an ancient church within the walled town!

Obidos, only a 2 hr train ride/1 hr drive from Lisbon, is a must-do in Portugal!
